Pimpri Chinchwad, 29th January 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will provide free Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) tests for diagnosing Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital and New Thergaon Hospital. A helpline will also be established to provide information about the disease.

Fifteen suspected cases of GBS have been reported in the city, with patients identified in Pimpri, Wakad, Bhosari, Pimple Gurav, Chikhali, and Talawade areas. Drinking water samples from these regions have been sent to the State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) in Pune for testing. Chlorine levels in water from wells, borewells, and tankers used for drinking purposes will be examined.

Private hospitals without immunoglobulin injections have been instructed not to admit GBS patients and instead refer them to municipal hospitals. The number of cases in the city remains stable, according to Dr. Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer Of Health Department.

Sixteen teams, two from each of the eight hospital divisions, have been formed to survey the affected areas. These teams are conducting house-to-house inspections to monitor the situation.
