Nigdi, 17th February 2025: A convicted murderer’s celebratory release from prison backfired when police intervened, forcing him and his friends to apologize for their actions. Shyam Yatnalkar, who had served seven years for murder, was ‘welcomed back’ by friends with fireworks upon his release. However, the festivities quickly turned sour when Pimpri Chinchwad Police caught wind of the situation.

Officials from Nigdi Police Station swiftly detained five to six individuals involved in the celebration, compelling them to apologize with folded hands for their behaviour that appeared to glorify criminal activities. The authorities used CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the participants.

Yatnalkar had been convicted of murder stemming from an illicit relationship, with the case registered at Wai Police Station in Satara District. He had been serving his sentence at Kalamba Central Jail in Kolhapur District before his release just two or three days before the incident.

Upon his return to Pimpri-Chinchwad, Yatnalkar arrived in a four-wheeler, greeted by a ‘movie-style’ welcome complete with fireworks. This exuberant reception ultimately led to trouble for both Yatnalkar and his friends.

The Nigdi Police took Yatnalkar back to the police station along with five others involved in the celebration. After issuing a stern warning, the police released the group, effectively putting an end to their ill-advised homecoming festivities.
