Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police PSI Booked For Demanding Rs 70,000 Bribe For Not Acting On Complaint

Chakan, 30th December 2021: The sleuths from the anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Pune unit, have arrested a man for allegedly demanding a bribe on behalf of a police sub-inspector (PSI) of Pimpri Chinchwad police.

The arrested person has been identified as Akhtar Shekhwat Ali Shaikh (35). He was demanding bribes on behalf of PSI Somnath Zende, currently posted with Chakan police station.

According to ACB, a complaint application was filed against the complainant. PSI Zende allegedly demanded Rs 70,000 bribe for not taking action on the complaint. He assigned the task of collecting the bribe money to Shaikh who demanded Rs 85,000 (including Rs 15,000 for himself) from the complainant.

 

After getting a complaint, ACB laid a trap and caught Shaikh red-handed while accepting Rs 85,000.

Now, an FIR has been registered against Shaikh and PSI Zende at Chakan police station for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. DySP Kranti Pawar is further investigating the case.
