Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd January 2025: A young man who had come to Pune from Beed District in search of employment was brutally murdered. Two individuals admitted the man to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri, claiming it was a road accident. In reality, he was murdered due to reportedly harassing a woman and her child. The woman sought revenge with the help of four others. This case was solved by the Crime Branch of Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC).

The Anti-Gunda Squad of PCPC has arrested Dinesh Suryakant Upade (age 28, resident of Pimple Nilakh) and Aditya Sharad Shinde (age 25, resident of Nigdi). Their three accomplices, including a woman, are currently being sought. The deceased individual is Balaji, also known as Balu Manchak Lande (age 28), a native of Beed.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode, on 17th January around 8:45 pm, two unknown individuals brought a severely injured Lande to YCM Hospital in Pimpri, claiming he had been in an accident. However, Lande succumbed to his injuries before any treatment could be administered. The unknown individuals provided false names and brought him in an auto-rickshaw with no number plate.

The Anti-Gunda Squad was tasked with investigating the matter as the stories told by the unknown individuals who admitted Lande didn’t match. By checking CCTV footage, the squad traced the incident to a flat in Chikhali where a minor girl was present. She was shown a photo and confirmed the deceased’s identity, which was previously unknown.

The minor girl was related to Lande. It was revealed that Lande reportedly harassed the girl’s mother while under the influence of alcohol regularly. Due to this, the mother and four accomplices beat Lande, resulting in his death.

Based on information from the minor girl, Upade and his accomplice Shinde were arrested and confessed to the crime. A team has been sent to Beed District to search for the remaining three accused, including the woman. Lande had come to Pune from Beed to earn a living and was related to the accused woman. A case has been registered against the accused for murder and common intention at Sant Tukaram Nagar Police Station. The arrested individuals have been remanded to four days of police custody.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police, Vinoy Kumar Choubey; Joint Commissioner of Police, Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar; Additional Commissioner of Police, Vasant Pardeshi; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Doiphode; and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 1), Dr Vishal Hire.
