Pune: Pimpri Police Arrest Husband in Child Marriage Case; 14 Individuals Booked Under Prevention of Child Marriage Act

Pimpri, 2nd June 2023: Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested a man in connection with a child marriage that took place four months ago, following a complaint filed by the minor victim.

The accused, Rohit Suraj Bhosle, aged 22 and a resident of Pimparigaon, was taken into custody by the Pimpri police. Additionally, a case has been registered against 14 individuals under the Prevention of Child Marriage Act.

The complainant, who is a minor, revealed that she was coerced into marrying Rohit when she was underage. The accused, along with seven women including Rohan Rajendra Kamble, Lalso Kamble, and Tushar Gaikwad, as well as Prem alias Rahul Suraj Bhosle, Shivaji Salve, and Rohit’s three maternal uncles, have been charged under the Prevention of Child Marriage Act.

The victim reported instances of physical abuse and coercion by her husband. Despite her mother’s initial opposition to the marriage, the accused manipulated the situation and forced the union. After enduring four months of abuse, the victim’s mother finally took her daughter to the police station to seek help.

Assistant Police Inspector Dr Ashok Dongre is currently investigating the case.
