Pune, 15th May 2023: The work of the first phase of Pune Metro by Mahametro is going on fast. At the same time, Mahametro has prepared for the second phase.

Mahametro submitted the second-phase project development plan to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) six months ago. The Municipal Corporation had not taken any decision on it. Finally, the Municipal Corporation has accepted the plan in principle. Soon this plan will be presented before the Standing Committee for approval.

Therefore, the stalled route of the second phase of the metro has finally been cleared.

According to the sources, the Municipal Corporation has approved this plan in principle. After the approval of various departments of the Municipal Corporation, it will soon be submitted before the Standing Committee for final approval.

The cost of the second phase of the metro within the limits of the PMC is expected to be around Rs 12,500 crore.
In reality, the PMC will have to spend only on land acquisition. 20 per cent amount each will be received from the center and the state and the remaining 60 per cent amount will be raised by Mahametro in the form of a loan.

The project development plan for the second phase of Metro was submitted by Mahametro to PMC on 26th September 2022. After that, the Municipal Corporation raised some doubts about it. Three to four meetings were held between the Mahametro and the Municipal Corporation for the same.

Despite submitting the project development plan, the PMC did not take further action. The Municipal Corporation should have approved the project development plan and sent it to the state government immediately. The state government would then send it to the central government and get the final approval.

However, even after six months, the project development plan had not moved forward from the municipal corporation.

Mahametro had already prepared the second phase of the metro last year. In the second phase, a 43 km metro line is proposed in Pune and 31 km in Pimpri-Chinchwad. After the completion of the first and second phases of the metro, a total length of 200 kilometers of metro network will be built in both cities. After the completion of the second phase, it will be possible to go to any part of the city by metro.

Metro network in the second phase:

– Vanaz to Chandni Chowk
– Ramwadi to Wagholi
– Hadapsar to Kharadi
– Khadakwasla to Swargate
– SNDT to Warje
– High-capacity public transport route in Pimpri-Chinchwad
