Pune: PMC Allocates Rs 3 Crore For Overhaul Of City Sports Complexes

Pune, 28th October 2023: In a bid to enhance the facilities at 14 sports complexes across the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on a repair initiative with a budget of three crore rupees. This comprehensive project encompasses the refurbishment of 12 swimming pools, addressing issues such as motor stalling, leaks, and tile damages.
The Municipal Corporation, responsible for the construction of 37 swimming pools in the city, has maintained 31 of them in operational condition. However, six swimming pools require major repair works, leading to their temporary closure. Recognizing the surge in citizens flocking to municipal swimming pools post-Diwali, the administration has proactively decided to conduct essential minor repairs beforehand.
The allocated budget of three crore rupees will cover a range of repairs, ensuring that each swimming pool and badminton hall undergoes necessary maintenance within the sanctioned limit of 50 lakhs. Although a provision of Rs 2 crore was initially set aside for the project, the estimated expenditure of Rs 3 crore has been approved to accommodate unforeseen costs.
The sports complexes slated for repair include the Shivajinagar Swimming Pool and Gymnasium, Veer Savarkar Swimming Pool Kausarbagh (Kondhwa), Piraji Koyaji Dangmali Swimming Pool Hadapsar, H.B.P. Bartakke Swimming Pool Warje, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Swimming Pool Somwar Peth, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Swimming Pool Warje, Wanjale Swimming Pool Vadgaon, Kharadi Swimming Pool, Nilu Phule Swimming Pool Ghorpade Peth, Karvenagar Badminton Hall, Shivajirao Dhume Sports Complex Parvati, Bapusaheb Kedari Swimming Pool Wanwadi, Gadgil School Swimming Pool Shaniwar Peth, and NG Nande swimming pool near Balgandharva auditorium.
