Shivajinagar, 14th December 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have been directed to ensure courteous treatment of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) after an increase in complaints about perceived discourtesy. Expressing displeasure with PMC’s conduct, the Legislative Assembly has issued orders to municipal administrators, urging them to address the issue promptly.

The complaints primarily revolve around the alleged lack of courtesy extended to MLAs in official meetings and programs since the appointment of administrators. Acknowledging the importance of maintaining etiquette and respect, Additional Commissioner Ravindra Binwade has issued orders instructing officials to behave courteously in matters related to MLAs.

Guidelines from the government, issued in 2015, 2018, and 2021, already emphasize the respectful treatment of all people’s representatives in the city. These guidelines include instructions to invite MLAs to meetings and government events, deliver letters, applications, and statements promptly, and print their names on invitation cards.

Despite the established guidelines, officials have been accused of evasion and malpractice, failing to respond to MLAs within the prescribed period. In response, strict actions and disciplinary measures have been ordered against officials found guilty of such misconduct. It is noted that while officials work on public welfare development projects in the constituencies, some MLAs are reportedly uncooperative, complaining that their names are not printed on event invitation cards.
