Pune: PMC Bans Entry Of BJP Labour Alliance Leader Over Harassment Allegations

Pune, 7th June 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has barred BJP Labour Alliance city president Omkar Kadam and his associate Akshay Kamble from entering PMC headquarters and other municipal offices. The action comes in the wake of a complaint filed by a woman medical officer from the Health Department, who accused the duo of mental harassment.
The incident dates back several weeks, when Kadam allegedly stormed into the female officer’s office with a group of 10–15 supporters. According to the complaint, they used abusive language, recorded videos without consent, and issued threats, all under the pretext of seeking information about Health Department operations. Although the officer had approached the then municipal commissioner with a formal complaint, no action was taken initially.
Frustrated by the inaction, the officer escalated the matter to the State Women’s Commission. The issue drew significant public attention after media reports surfaced, prompting the PMC to act.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has now issued formal orders prohibiting both Kadam and Kamble from entering the PMC headquarters and any of its branches until further notice. The Women’s Grievance Redressal Centre took note of the incident and recommended immediate action to curb what it described as “bullying and high-handedness.”
In response to the developments, Omkar Kadam held a press conference defending his actions. He alleged that rampant corruption has plagued the Urban Poor Scheme for the past seven years and claimed to possess documentary evidence obtained through RTI applications and inside sources. According to him, the harassment complaint was filed to suppress impending action against the officer involved in the alleged corruption.
Meanwhile, insiders say a long-standing cold war within PMC’s Health Department has further complicated matters. Officers are reportedly leaking information about one another, demanding investigations, and refusing to cooperate internally. This infighting has hampered the functioning of the department and deprived Pune residents of essential health services. Despite several attempts by successive commissioners and senior officials, no lasting solution to the internal strife has been achieved so far.
