Pune, 9th July 2025: The process of preparing a new draft ward structure for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections has officially commenced. According to Election Returning Officer Prasad Katkar, the initial phase of this exercise will be completed by July 24.

As per directions from the Urban Development Department, the PMC has been instructed to redraw ward boundaries ahead of the civic polls. The election office is currently working on the draft using advanced tools like Google Mapping to ensure accurate delineation of the wards.

“This draft work will be completed between July 23 and 24. Following that, the ward boundaries will be physically inspected at the site,” Katkar stated. Once the inspection is complete, the draft will be submitted to the Municipal Commissioner for approval.

The final draft—bearing the Municipal Commissioner’s signature—will then be forwarded to the Urban Development Department by August 4, he added.

The upcoming PMC elections will follow the four-member ward system, under which each ward will elect four corporators. The ward restructuring is being closely watched by political parties, as it could influence voter distribution and electoral outcomes across several key areas.

The finalization of the draft is expected to lay the groundwork for transparent and updated representation in Pune’s municipal governance system.
