Pune: PMC Clears 2,200 Sq Ft of Encroachments in Katraj Area
Katraj, 11th July 2025: In a joint operation to tackle unauthorized structures and ease traffic congestion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday cleared over 2,200 square feet of illegal constructions in the Bharati Vidyapeeth area.
The anti-encroachment drive was carried out between the PICT main gate and Bharati Vidyapeeth back gate under the jurisdiction of the Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar Ward Office. The operation targeted unpaved and unauthorized structures occupying footpaths, front setbacks, and side margins of buildings.
The action was taken following repeated complaints from local residents about increasing encroachments and traffic bottlenecks in the area. Senior PMC officials, including Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment & Unauthorized Construction Removal) Sandeep Khalate, Deputy Commissioner (Circle No. 3) Vijaykumar Thorat, and Assistant Commissioner Surekha Bhange, were present during the drive.
During the operation, PMC teams removed 2,200 square feet of unapproved constructions and seized 10 truckloads of encroachment material. The confiscated items included 3 handcarts, 22 iron counters, 6 steel counters, tables, chairs, tents, and 16 temporary huts, among other materials.
The enforcement team consisted of Divisional Officer Narayan Sable, Inspector Bhimaji Shinde, Sagar Vibhute, Junior Engineer Vandana Gawari, along with other municipal staff, four police personnel, 21 Maharashtra Security Force members, and 45 casual workers.
