Pune: PMC Commissioner Pulls Up Officials Over Delay in Ektanagari Flood Wall Project

Pune, 29th May 2026: Residents of Ektanagari on Sinhagad Road surrounded Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram during his visit to the area on Friday, expressing anger over delays in flood protection measures and the lack of action despite the approaching monsoon.
The protest took place during the commissioner’s inspection of the proposed boundary wall work along the Mutha river. The wall is intended to prevent floodwaters from entering Ektanagari, which has witnessed repeated flooding over the past several years.
According to PMC officials, approval for the construction of the boundary wall was granted in January as an urgent measure. The work was expected to be completed by May before the onset of the monsoon. However, despite the work order being issued, the contractor had allegedly not started the project.
During the inspection, Commissioner Ram reprimanded civic officials and questioned the contractor over the delay in execution of the project. He directed officials to ensure that the work is completed within the next two months and warned that action would be taken in case of further delays.
The commissioner also instructed officials to submit daily evening progress reports on the work.
Residents of Ektanagari expressed frustration over the PMC’s handling of flood-related issues in the locality. Citizens alleged that during floods, sewage water flows back into their homes, causing severe inconvenience and losses, while the civic administration has failed to implement permanent solutions.
Several residents gathered around the commissioner and raised their concerns directly, demanding immediate measures before the monsoon intensifies.
For the past few years, multiple buildings in Ektanagari have been affected by flooding caused by the overflowing Mutha river. The area has previously been visited by the Chief Minister and other ministers, who had assured residents of safety measures and relief. However, locals claim that no concrete action has been taken so far.
Speaking about the issue, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said, “Approval had been granted for the tender to construct the boundary wall along the Mutha river. However, the work has not started. Officials have now been directed to complete the project within two months. Citizens’ grievances will also be addressed at the earliest.”
