Pune: PMC Cracks Down On Encroachments Along Rajput Slum Road For Widening Project; Citizens Advised To Co-Operate
Erandwane, 13th February 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Wednesday along Rajput Slum Road in Erandwane to clear illegal structures obstructing the ongoing road-widening and asphalting project.
The road, a crucial link between the riverbed and the inner city areas, is widely used by two-wheeler riders from Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Warje, Aundh, and Gokhale Nagar to access Deccan Gymkhana, PMC headquarters, and other central locations while avoiding traffic congestion. However, its narrow stretch on the Erandwane side has led to frequent bottlenecks.
In recent weeks, unauthorized structures, including makeshift houses, hotels, and street vendors, had encroached upon the roadside, prompting multiple complaints from citizens. Following these grievances and in preparation for the road’s asphalting, the PMC initiated the demolition drive under heavy police security.
Officials stated that the action was necessary to facilitate the road-widening work and improve connectivity for daily commuters.
