Wagholi, 9th June 2o: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in Wagholi, demolishing several unauthorized structures spread over nearly 30,000 square feet along Lohgaon Road.

The operation began around 6 a.m. near Suyog Nisarg Society and was conducted under heavy police security. According to PMC officials, the drive targeted 10 to 12 unauthorized multi-storey buildings, including a seven-storey structure that was being constructed without the required permissions.

The civic body had recently inspected the area and found multiple illegal construction projects underway. Notices were issued to the concerned property owners two days before the demolition.

Using JCB machines and tractors, PMC teams razed the unauthorized structures. Among them was a seven-storey residential building with a planned capacity of 75 flats. Officials said the developer had intended to extend the structure to 11 floors.

Despite the scale of the operation, the demolition was carried out peacefully, with no resistance or untoward incidents reported. A large police contingent was deployed to maintain law and order throughout the drive.

PMC officials said the action was initiated following directions from the Municipal Commissioner after illegal construction activity was detected during inspections.

“Several unauthorized buildings were found under construction during our survey. Following the Municipal Commissioner’s directions, action was taken today. A building with 75 proposed flats has been completely demolished, and similar action against illegal constructions will continue in the future,” said Somnath Bankar, Deputy Commissioner of PMC’s Encroachment Department.

The civic administration reiterated its commitment to curbing unauthorized construction and warned builders and property owners against undertaking development activities without obtaining the necessary approvals from the competent authorities.
