Pune: PMC Files FIR Against Two Residents for Unauthorized Lift Construction in Camp’s Gita Society
Camp, 27th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has cracked down on unauthorized residential alterations, filing a police complaint against two individuals for illegally constructing an elevator inside a residential building. The First Information Report (FIR) was formally registered on February 21, 2026, at the Bund Garden Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Reza Ismail and Sara Ismail, residents of Flat No. 13, Building F, located in Gita Society, Pune.
According to the complaint filed by Nitin Sakharam Chandane, a 43-year-old Junior Engineer assigned to the PMC’s Building Development Zone No. 04, the accused undertook significant structural changes without obtaining the requisite approvals from the civic body.
Illegal Construction in Duct Area
Investigations by the municipal authorities revealed that the occupants of Flat No. 13 had illegally erected an elevator within the building’s common duct area. This structural alteration was deemed unauthorized as no prior permission was sought from the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Ignored Notices Led to Legal Action
The PMC had previously flagged this violation. On October 27, 2025, the civic body served a formal notice to the property owners under Sections 53/1 and 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, read alongside Sections 478 and 267(1) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949.
Despite the official notice, the unauthorized construction was neither halted nor rectified, constituting a direct violation of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Consequently, PMC authorities initiated legal proceedings to enforce compliance.
Based on the Junior Engineer’s complaint, the Bund Garden Police have registered FIR No. 0038/2026. The accused have been booked under Section 52 of the MRTP Act, 1966, which penalizes unauthorized development or use of land without valid permission.
Police Inspector Santosh Laxman Pandhre has been assigned as the Investigating Officer for the case.
