Pune, January 16, 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) health department will soon set up an IT cell to keep the track of the medical history of their patients. This will help authorities provide on-time and accurate treatment to the patients.

The medical team faced several issues while treating the patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the unavailability of the medical history of the patients co-morbidity was not known and the doctors needed to conduct other tests first, which caused a delay in the treatment. In many cases, the delay led to the death of patients. Taking a lesson from such incidents, the health department is planning on new changes for the medical systems.

Speaking about the same, Assistant health in-charge Dr Sanjeev Wavare said, “To provide affordable treatment to the citizens the PMC has established 72 hospitals and clinics, but as of now we do not have any system to keep track of the medical history of the patients. During the recent covid-19 pandemic, we realised that it caused a delay in the treatment and led to death in several cases. Considering this issue seriously, the department is planning to set up a separate IT cell and provide advanced software systems to each medical section, so that they can keep track of the medical history of the patients.”

He added, “The proposal was presented in the recent meeting of senior health officers and will be implemented soon. It will help us to provide on-time and accurate treatment to the patients.”
