Pune: PMC Issues Notice to Birla Estates After Mud Causes Accidents

Pune, 5th August 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a notice to Birla Estates Private Limited after mud allegedly spilled by vehicles transporting construction materials made a public road near the RTO office slippery, causing several two-wheeler riders to skid and sustain injuries.
On Tuesday morning, August 4, a large quantity of mud was found on the stretch between the RTO office and Naidu Hospital on Rajabahadur Mill Road. Several motorcyclists reportedly lost control of their vehicles and fell. Some sustained injuries in the accidents.
Fire brigade personnel from a nearby station responded promptly and cleaned the road using water jets, helping prevent further accidents.
Following the incident, a complaint was submitted to PMC City Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar. The PMC’s Building Development Department subsequently served a notice on Birla Estates and the architect associated with its construction project, Birla Punya (a luxury residential project) at Final Plot No. 90 in Sangamwadi.
According to the notice, the civic body has received complaints that construction materials—including sand, gravel, cement and ready-mix concrete—have been falling onto public roads while being transported to the project site. The spilled materials have damaged roads, obstructed traffic and created hazardous conditions that have allegedly led to repeated accidents.
The developer has been directed to submit a written explanation to the Building Development Department within seven days of receiving the notice.
The PMC has also instructed the developer to brief vehicle drivers, contractors, site engineers and other personnel handling construction materials and ensure that no material is spilled on public roads in the future.
The notice warns that the civic administration will initiate appropriate action against the developer if the directions are not followed.
