Pune, 7th December 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a seizure notice to the Sinhgad Institute’s headquarters in Erandwane over property tax arrears amounting to ₹47.43 crore. If the outstanding amount is not paid within 30 days, the PMC plans to auction the institute’s properties.

According to the information received, the PMC has intensified its tax recovery efforts, with ₹1,800 crore collected from 8.73 lakh property owners so far this financial year. However, rising arrears remain a concern, prompting PMC to launch various initiatives, including playing bands outside defaulters’ premises starting 2nd December. This strategy alone has helped recover ₹11 crore in just four days.

PMC’s tax collection target for 2024-25 is ₹2,727 crore. With only four months left in the financial year, aggressive measures are being implemented, including five dedicated band teams operating across 15 ward offices.

Sinhgad Institute has reportedly not cleared property tax dues for the past five years, despite PMC’s repeated actions. Last year, PMC initiated a recovery drive, which the institute challenged in court. The court upheld PMC’s action and ordered the institute to pay the arrears, but the dues remain unpaid.

As a result, the PMC has now affixed a seizure notice on the institute’s headquarters. If the dues are not cleared within the stipulated time, the properties will be auctioned to recover the amount.
