Pune Consumer Alleges Flesh-Like Objects Found Inside Sealed Samrat Rava Pack, FDA Complaint Filed

Viman Nagar, 2nd August 2026: Nirmal Kumar Iyer, a resident of Viman Nagar, Pune, has approached the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after allegedly discovering three unidentified foreign objects resembling pieces of flesh inside a sealed 500-gram packet of Samrat Rava purchased through Swiggy Instamart.
According to the complainant, the product was ordered through Swiggy Instamart on July 14. Iyer alleged that the foreign objects were discovered immediately after the sealed packet was opened for use. He claimed the objects emitted a foul smell, making the contents appear unfit for consumption.
The packet was reportedly intact and sealed at the time of delivery. Details printed on the packaging indicate the batch code as FPD7D, with a manufacturing date of June 4, 2026, and a best-before date of October 3, 2026.
Concerned about the potential public health risk, the consumer filed a formal complaint with the Maharashtra FDA on August 1, seeking an investigation into the alleged contamination. The complainant said he has preserved the packet, purchase invoice, Swiggy order details, photographs of the product, and the complaint acknowledgement to assist the authorities.
“A refund doesn’t solve the issue. If something like this can reach one household, it could reach many others. That’s why I approached the FDA,” the complainant said.
Swiggy acknowledged the complaint and issued a refund for the order. However, it was not immediately known whether the matter had been escalated to the manufacturer or whether the product would be collected for further investigation.
Under the Food Safety and Standards framework, complaints of suspected food contamination are typically examined by the FDA through sample collection and laboratory testing. If contamination is confirmed, the authorities may initiate action against those found responsible under the applicable food safety laws.
Photographs shared by the complainant appear to show three dark foreign objects embedded in the rava. However, the exact nature of the objects has not been independently verified, and their identity can only be confirmed through scientific examination by the competent authorities.
