Pune: PMC Order Probe After 632 Beneficiaries Of Urban Poor Scheme Found To Have Property Already

Pune, 10th June 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started the verification of the beneficiaries of the Urban Poor Scheme implemented by the Health Department. It has come out that in the list of last year’s beneficiaries; there are properties in the names of 632 people.

Financial assistance is provided by the PMC under the Urban-Poor Scheme for medical treatment to the economically weaker sections. Similarly, medical treatment is also provided under the state government’s Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Additional Commissioner Rubal Agarwal said that all these schemes are being reviewed together. “Last year, about 12,000 citizens benefited from the urban-poor scheme. We are currently investigating whether the financial condition of these beneficiaries is really poor, whether they have properties in their name. Out of the total beneficiaries, 632 have been found to have properties in their names. They will be served notices”, Agarwal informed.

Agarwal said that there are only one lakh cardholders of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and the ward offices have been directed to increase their number.
