Pune, 24th December 2024: In January, the Maharashtra State Government will decide on the property tax for newly included villages in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Additionally, PMC will soon hold a meeting to discuss road development, allocate significant funding, and draft a master plan to address traffic issues in these villages.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, recently chaired a meeting to address the challenges faced by the newly included villages under PMC. The meeting was attended by PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP.

The Maharashtra Government’s decision to halt the collection of property tax from these villages has affected PMC’s revenue, making it difficult to provide necessary services. Ajit Pawar was informed of this issue and assured that a meeting next month will work towards resolving it. PMC also requested a share of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) paid by residents of these villages. The development plan for these areas was also discussed during the meeting.

Today, Pune is grappling with a significant traffic congestion problem, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has issued some directives to address it. In the upcoming PMC budget, Pawar suggested allocating more funds for road development and completing road projects in one phase rather than in stages, according to Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP.

To tackle traffic congestion, a meeting is scheduled next week involving the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune Metro, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), Traffic Police, and other relevant agencies. Plans will also be discussed at the ward office level to ensure comprehensive coordination.

Among the 34 newly included villages in PMC, Uruli Devachi and Phursungi were announced as Nagar Parishads. However, the Nagar Parishads have not yet been established, and PMC will not receive revenue from these villages. Meanwhile, residents have demanded not to be excluded from development plans and have urged PMC to continue addressing their needs until the Nagar Parishads are formally established.
