Pune, 9th October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed transferring 665 sq m of its land in Dhankawadi to MahaMetro for the construction of Padmavati station on the Swargate-Katraj underground metro corridor. The proposal seeks to adjust Rs 3.91 crore, twice the assessed value of the land, against the civic body’s financial contribution to the metro project.

The proposal has been placed before the civic body’s city improvement committee. If approved, it will be forwarded to the standing committee and then the general body for final approval, paving the way for MahaMetro to obtain the land required for the station.

In a letter dated January 9, 2026, MahaMetro sought permanent ownership of 665 sq m out of a 702 sq m plot at survey numbers 19A/4A and 19A/4B in Dhankawadi. The land, originally acquired for a truck terminal, had been used to rehabilitate businesses from Sadashiv Peth affected by the Hanging Garden reservation.

The land is reserved for municipal purposes under the development plan approved in 2017. As the plot is required for a public project, the PMC issued notices to the affected parties under Section 81(B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act. The parties submitted written objections and sought compensation, following which hearings were conducted.

The proposal also cites a policy precedent under which land in Mundhwa was transferred at twice its assessed value for the development of Hadapsar railway station.
