Pune, 9th October 2026: Technical glitches in the MahaIT system have left applicants for the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (MHADA) housing lottery struggling to complete their applications, despite having valid documents. More than one lakh applications have been submitted for 4,462 flats in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, but applicants say their documents are repeatedly failing barcode verification.

MHADA officials said the problem stemmed from a technical failure in MahaIT’s computer system and not from the housing board’s website.

MHADA advertised the 4,462 flats on August 26, initially setting September 30 as the deadline for applications. The deadline was later extended to October 15 after applicants reported difficulties obtaining and verifying essential documents, including residence certificates, income tax returns (ITRs) and income certificates issued by tehsildars.

However, the extension has failed to resolve the problem, with applicants continuing to face technical hurdles while uploading their documents.

The online application system uses MahaIT to verify the barcodes on residence certificates, ITRs and income certificates issued by tehsildars. Applicants have reported that the system is currently unable to complete the verification process, forcing them to upload the same documents repeatedly.

As a result, many applicants are spending days trying to resolve technical issues instead of completing their applications.

Several applicants have approached the MHADA office directly to seek assistance. In view of the rising number of complaints, the housing board has deployed separate staff to address applicants’ grievances, with support from its IT department and other employees.

MHADA officials said they had contacted the concerned MahaIT department and reported the technical problems. MahaIT has indicated that the glitch will be resolved soon.

However, the continued disruption has left applicants frustrated, as those hoping to secure a home through the lottery face delays because of a technical problem beyond their control.
