Pune, 4th February 2025: Amid allegations of biased action by the Property Tax Department, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has released a list of the top 100 property tax defaulters in the city, who collectively owe ₹334.10 crore. The highest individual defaulter owes ₹18.44 crore, while the lowest on the list has arrears of ₹1.36 crore.

To boost revenue, the PMC Property Tax Department has intensified its recovery drive, employing tactics such as playing bands outside defaulters’ properties, confiscating assets, and sealing premises. This crackdown over the past two months has created fear among tax defaulters.

In addition, Peth-wise inspectors have been assigned daily targets and are visiting 300 properties per day to recover dues. However, allegations had surfaced that the department was targeting small businesses, prompting the release of this top defaulters’ list to counter such claims.
