Shivajinagar, 22nd January 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approached the state government, requesting the allocation of 15 government-owned land parcels to advance several long-delayed civic projects. Officials emphasized that these parcels are crucial for initiatives like the 24×7 water supply, road widening in Mundhwa, and the development of a sports ground in Shivajinagar.

“A significant number of projects are stalled due to the lack of available land,” a senior PMC official explained.

The pending projects include constructing water tanks in Bavdhan and Mhalunge, carrying out road works in Kothrud and Ambegaon, widening roads in Bhamburde and Mundhwa, creating a sports facility in Shivajinagar, beautifying the riverbank in Sangamwadi, and securing land for a railway overbridge in Ghorpadi, according to PMC officials.

The requested land parcels fall under the jurisdiction of the district collector, requiring the PMC to submit formal proposals for acquisition. Civic officials estimate that acquiring these 15 plots would cost around ₹25 crore. “The proposal has already received approval from the standing committee and the general body meeting,” the official added.

Among the key projects awaiting land allocation is the 24×7 water supply scheme, which aims to provide uninterrupted water access to Pune residents. Similarly, the road widening efforts in Mundhwa and Bhamburde are expected to alleviate traffic congestion in these growing areas. The development of a sports ground in Shivajinagar is another priority, envisioned to promote recreational activities and sports culture in the city.

PMC officials have expressed hope that the state government will expedite the process, allowing these long-pending projects to finally move forward and benefit Pune’s growing population.
