Pune, June 3, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday reviewed the progress of various pre-monsoon works related to drains, culverts, and the city’s stormwater drainage infrastructure.

The review meeting was chaired by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Estate) Prajit Nair and attended by deputy commissioners of all zones, assistant commissioners of regional offices, and officials from concerned departments.

During the meeting, officials assessed the status of ongoing works across different parts of the city, including drain widening and deepening, desilting operations, culvert repairs and construction, and measures aimed at enhancing the capacity of the stormwater drainage system.

The review also focused on projects undertaken to prevent waterlogging and flood-like situations during the monsoon season.

A detailed discussion was held on the progress of works in each zone, pending tasks, challenges faced during execution, and measures required to address them. Officials presented updates on the current status of projects and the timelines for their completion.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair instructed all concerned departments to ensure that the planned pre-monsoon works are completed on time and to the required quality standards. He directed officials to deploy additional manpower and machinery wherever work progress is slower than expected so that pending projects can be completed on priority.

Nair also announced that from next week, field inspections of drain and culvert works across various regional office jurisdictions will be conducted to assess the quality and progress of ongoing projects. Any deficiencies identified during these inspections will be rectified immediately to ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience during the monsoon.

He further directed all departments to work in coordination and expedite the execution of projects aimed at improving rainwater drainage and reducing the risk of urban flooding.

The PMC stated that it is implementing a series of planned interventions through various departments to prevent flood situations, ensure smooth discharge of rainwater, and safeguard citizens during the monsoon. Officials were urged to accelerate the pace of implementation of all ongoing works.

Among those present at the meeting were Deputy Commissioners Vijaykumar Thorat, Arvind Mali, Madhav Jagtap, Avinash Sakpal, Asha Raut, Disaster Management Chief Ganesh Sonune, assistant commissioners of regional offices, and other concerned officials.
