Pune: PMC Road Excavation to Close Gangadham–Shatrunjay Link; Traffic Police Announce Diversions
Market Yard, 27th January 2026: A key road stretch connecting Gangadham and Kondhwa will be closed to traffic as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) undertakes excavation work, prompting the Pune Traffic Police to issue a detailed diversion plan for commuters.
The Market Yard Traffic Division has announced that the section between Shriji Chowk and the Gagan Vihar Y-Junction on the Aai Mata Mandir slope will remain completely shut for vehicular movement from January 25, 2026, until the completion of the civic works.
Traffic officials said the temporary closure is essential to ensure public safety and allow the infrastructure work to proceed without obstruction. Motorists travelling through the area have been advised to plan alternate routes in advance and strictly adhere to the diversion guidelines to prevent congestion on surrounding roads.
Diversion Routes
From Kondhwa (Kanha Hotel) towards Gangadham Chowk:
Commuters should travel via Pasalkar Chowk–Bibwewadi Road or take the Pasalkar Chowk–Kondhwa Road route to reach Gangadham.
From Gangadham Chowk towards Kondhwa (Kanha Hotel):
Motorists are advised to proceed through Gangadham–Lulla Nagar Chowk–Kondhwa or use the alternative Gangadham–Bibwewadi route.
The traffic department has urged residents and housing societies in nearby areas to widely share the advisory through notice boards, social media platforms and messaging groups to ensure greater public awareness.
Officials have also appealed to drivers to cooperate with traffic personnel deployed on the ground, follow the prescribed diversions, and exercise patience during the closure period. Authorities emphasised that public cooperation will be crucial to maintaining safe and orderly traffic flow until PMC completes the excavation work.
