Mohammed Wadi, 7th February 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sent a notice to the Margosa Heights housing society in Mohammed Wadi in an effort to recover unpaid property tax, which has angered the residents.

A resident informed that instead of sending out individual warnings, the local authority warned the residents about unpaid property taxes and threatened to cut off the society’s water supply. “Although the civic organization should take action against defaulters, we are unsure of their motivation.”

Residents questioned how the PMC could take action against honest taxpayers when just a small number of people are not paying their taxes. The governing body needs to punish certain people.

There are 206 properties in the Margosa Heights housing society that have not paid Rs 78,59,194 in property tax, according to a letter dated January 14, 2023. Through this letter, the residents were notified that in order to avoid actions like water supply cutbacks, they must pay all debts within the next two days.

Ajit Deshmukh, head of the property tax department said, “After numerous reminders, many people have not paid their taxes. As a result, we have issued letters for the familiarity of the society, so that they may bring this problem before their society’s general body.”

He added that because of unpaid taxes, no circular on water cuts have been issued.
