Pune: PMC Set To Launch E-Charging Stations At 21 Places

Pune, 11th January 2024: As the number of electric vehicles (e-vehicles) on Pune’s roads continues to rise, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch electric vehicle charging stations at 21 strategic locations across the city. Out of the planned 82 stations, the construction of 21 has been completed, marking a significant step towards enhancing the city’s electric vehicle infrastructure.

PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar is scheduled to inaugurate these charging stations on the upcoming Friday (12th), showcasing the city’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

PMC recognizing the growing importance of e-vehicles, initiated the process by inviting tenders for the e-charging stations in 2022. A private company was awarded the construction contract, with PMC providing the necessary locations. The entire cost of setting up these stations is covered by the private company. 50 per cent of the income generated from charging services will contribute to Municipal funds.

The selected locations for the charging stations include prominent spots like PMC Main Building, Savarkar Bhavan, Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, PMC’s Ghole Road Ward Office, PMC’s Tilak Road Ward Office, Balagandharv Rang Mandir, Skechers Showroom on Jangli Maharaj (JM) Road, McDonald’s Parking on JM Road, Lemon Salon Fergusson College (FC) Road Parking, Kushal Wall Street on FC Road, Art Station on FC Road, Millennium Plaza on FC Road, Peshwe Energy Park, Aryan Parking in Mandai, Gultekdi Parking, Navloba Parking in Shukrawar Peth, Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Kalamandir, Sanjay Gandhi Maternity Home, Padmavati Parking.

Noteworthy facilities provided at these charging stations include QR codes for citizens to pay conveniently through mobile apps, contributing to a seamless and user-friendly experience.

The cost of charging per unit is set between Rs. 13 to 19, offering an affordable and competitive charging solution for e-vehicle users in the city. Citizens can use the QR codes available at the charging stations to make online payments through the designated mobile app, ensuring a cashless and efficient transaction process.
