Pune, 17th April 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to initiate the auction process for around 100 properties that were seized last year due to unpaid property taxes. These properties, located across various parts of the city, were previously marked for action after repeated tax default notices were ignored by their owners.

According to the Property Tax Department, property owners who fail to pay their dues within the stipulated deadlines are served with multiple notices. If dues remain unpaid despite these warnings, the civic body proceeds with property seizure. Between 90 and 100 such properties were seized in the last financial year following consistent non-compliance.

While the properties were evaluated after being seized, the auction process has seen significant delays. However, PMC officials have now confirmed that the auction procedure is back on track.

Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Department, Pratibha Patil, stated that the auction will be held soon. “The valuation of the seized properties was completed last year. Now, the encumbrance process is underway, and once that is finished, the auction date will be announced at least eight days in advance,” she said.

The move is aimed at recovering long-pending tax arrears and also serves as a warning to other defaulters. The civic administration aims that the said decisive action will improve tax compliance and contribute to the city’s revenue generation.
