Pune, June 23, 2020: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will be bearing the expenses of 500 COVID-19 tests per day, in order to help expedite the testing in the city. Pune Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad said that discussions with private labs are underway in this regard.

The State Government has put a cap on the cost of the tests for private labs at Rs 2,500 per test. As testing has increased, and there is a lot of backlog of results, the PMC has made the decision to expedite the process.

As the lockdown has relaxed in phase 5, movement of people has increased. Around 60 percent of the new cases are found in the containment zones, while 40 percent are outside the containment zones. Earlier, the situation in the containment areas was renewed every 15 days, but now the period will be reduced to every eight days.
