Pune: PMC To Disconnect Water Connection To Government Offices, Private Properties For Not Paying Bills

Pune, 16th June 2021: Notices have been issued to government offices, educational institutes, Commissioner of Police and banks under the campaign undertaken by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to recover arrears of water bill. The Municipal Corporation has announced the list of arrears of more than one lakh and if the arrears are not paid by June 25, action will be taken by closing the pipeline.

Municipal Corporation levy water bill on residential and commercial properties. The water bill is in arrears of Rs 550 crore. This includes commercial properties, state government and central government offices. Khadki and Pune Cantonment Boards are also among those who have not paid the bill. In the first phase, the recovery of arrears from commercial properties has started. The department-wise list of arrears has been published by the Municipal Corporation.

The list includes real estate professionals, hotels, resorts, companies working in the field of information technology. But the biggest arrears are with government offices. It has been revealed that Commissionerate of Police, State Reserve Police Force, Rural Police, Telephone Offices, Animal Husbandry Commissionerate, Sugar Commissionerate, Railway Offices, Balbharati and many educational institutes are in arrears of crores of rupees. All of them have been issued notices by the Municipal Corporation.

The water supply department provides water supply to 35,000 commercial properties in the city. They have arrears of Rs 170 crore.

According to information, given by the water supply department, there are 280 properties with arrears between 10 lakh to 1 crore rupees and the total amount of arrears is Rs 58.81 crore. 80 People who are in arrears of more than Rs 1 crore and the total amount of arrears is Rs 80 crore. The number of those in arrears of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh is 1,336 and the PMC is expected to get Rs 52.15 crore from them. Also, there are 1,027 properties with arrears ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and they have arrears of Rs 60 crore.
