Pune, 6th February 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Standing Committee has re-approved a budget of ₹7.60 crore for the construction of a grand Hindavi Swarajya memorial, featuring a 60-foot bronze statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Chandani Chowk.

The statue will be installed on a 30-foot-high platform at Chandani Chowk near Bavdhan. This decision marks an upgrade to the previously approved plan, which included a smaller 20-foot statue on a 17-foot platform.

The memorial will be situated on a 5,542-square-metre plot at the intersection of roads leading to Warje, Mulshi, Kothrud, and the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway’s service road. The project will feature an entrance gate with stone cladding, lotus-shaped fountains, and landscaped gardens.

Additional elements of the memorial include yellow and red stone pathways, a secondary entrance, RCC retaining walls, and boundary walls. The original tender for the project was approved at ₹6.56 crore. The revision to include a larger statue came at the behest of regional groups and was communicated by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Muralidhar Mohol.
