Pune, 15th November 2022: If a pet dog pollutes public roads and footpaths, the dog owner will be fined Rs 500, the municipal administration has stated. The solid waste management department of the Pune municipal corporation informed that a dog owner has been fined in the Kothrud area already.

The municipal health department has a record of 80,000 pet dogs in Pune city. Out of these, only 5,500 dog lovers have taken the license to keep dogs. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation has made it mandatory to get registration and license for dogs.

Dogs are brought to public places in the morning and evening by dog lovers. Complaints about dogs littering public roads, footpaths and parks are being continuously made to the municipal administration and the regional office. Due to this, dog owners and citizens are also having arguments. Since citizens are complaining that the municipal corporation is not taking penal action against dog owners, now the solid waste management department of the municipal corporation has started to speed up the penal action. In this regard, a meeting was held with the officials of the solid waste management department. Therefore, orders have been given to all the 15 regional offices of the city to collect a fine of Rs 500 from the owner if the dog litters public places. Also, its responsibility has been entrusted to health inspectors.
