Pune, 18th March 2021: Given the increasing number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with the State government has decided to take strict action against the non-compliant traders.

If shops, hotels, malls, multiplexes, etc. do not follow safety rules and regulations imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19, these establishments will be ‘sealed’ by the authorities and will remain closed for the next few months.

Until the Central government declares the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, these establishments will remain sealed.

The civic administration has issued stern action orders on the backdrop of recent orders issued by the State government regarding the lockdown.

The municipal administration is taking action against the establishments which do not follow the rules laid down by them. Some establishments have been sealed for a day, while others will remain sealed for more days. These establishments are likely to remain closed for the next few months.

As per the orders issued by Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar two days ago, action orders have been issued to the heads of all field offices.

After sealing the violating establishments, action will be taken against the owners of those establishments under the Disaster Management Act. Violators of the guidelines will be prosecuted under Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This order by the State government has scarred traders

Monitoring home isolation

At present, around 11,000 patients are in home isolation in Pune. These patients will be closely monitored by the PMC and their isolation period will be written in front of their houses. These patients will be given a stamp on their hands and will be allowed to leave the house using masks only if necessary. The joint commissioners along with the heads of regional offices have been directed to abide by these rules.

Covid Care Centers reopen

Due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in the city, the municipal corporation has reopened Covid Care Centers which were closed for the last two months. Bankar School in Kharadi, Hadapsar, Pathare Stadium on Nagar Road, and Sant Dnyaneshwar Hostel in Yerawada have been reopened.

A centre has also been set up at the Nandan Acura building in Baner. Around 1,350 beds have been prepared in it and treatment will be provided by the civic authorities.

Micro-containment zones increase

The PMC has decided to create micro-restricted areas after an increase in COVID-19 cases, and so far, 140 micro-restricted areas have been created in various parts of the city. The number of such areas is expected to increase in the coming days. The spread of coronavirus is expected to increase over the next month, thus, increasing the number of COVID-19 patients in the city.

“Strict action has been taken against individuals and establishments for violating lockdown rules and regulations. Adequate precautions are being taken by the civic administration as the number of COVID-19 patients is increasing. On the one hand, preparations are underway to treat the patients, while on the other, action is being taken against those who do not follow the rules”, said Rubal Agarwal, Additional Commissioner.
