Pune: PMC To Use Plasma Gasification Technology To Turn Trash Into Hydrogen Gas

Pune, 10th January 2023: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has chosen to use plasma gasification technology developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Center to turn trash into hydrogen gas (BARC). Green Billions Limited will work to establish the project at Ramtekadi, Hadapsar.
By April 2024, the project will have completed its target of producing 350 metric tonnes of hydrogen gas from the garbage. The station will then produce nine metric tonnes of hydrogen gas by using 50 metric tonnes of biofertilizers.
The Government of India has chosen to create hydrogen gas in an environmentally sustainable manner to decrease the import of natural gas and other petroleum products from outside. As a result, Pune Municipal Corporation has taken on this project.
The project will generate revenue since waste-derived hydrogen will be injected into the city’s gas distribution system. More than 23.8 million metric tonnes of waste will be diverted from the project to the landfill as a result of this project, which can reduce 2.5 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. At “The Green Billions facility” in Pune, using sensor technology, this waste will be divided into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and domestic waste. The objective of Pune’s effective waste treatment will also be accomplished with the aid of this initiative.
