771 Electricity Thefts Worth Rs 2.55 Crore Uncovered In Pune Regional Division
Pune, 10th January 2023: In December, 771 cases of electricity theft and 238 cases of unauthorized use have come to light in MSEDCL Pune Regional Division. In the last month, a strict campaign against electricity theft has been implemented, and 7,404 electricity connections have been inspected.
A total of 771 cases of electricity theft worth Rs 2.55 crore have been revealed, while 238 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption worth Rs 81.23 lakh have been revealed. A total of Rs 149 lakh has been recovered in 417 cases.

A total of 2,962 electricity connections were checked in Pune circle. In this, 144 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption and 272 cases of electricity theft have been revealed.
A total of 2,361 electricity connections were checked in Baramati circle. In this, 53 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption and 359 cases of electricity theft have been revealed.
A total of 2,081 electricity connections were checked in Kolhapur circle. In this, 41 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption and 140 cases of electricity theft have been revealed.
Ankush Nale, Regional Director of MSEDCL has directed to intensify the campaign against electricity theft. According to Sections 135 and 136 of the Electricity Act 2003, theft of electricity is a punishable offence punishable with imprisonment of up to three years. Therefore, MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to refrain from electricity theft.
