Pune: PMC Urges Citizens To Protect Planted Trees
Pune, 13th March 2023: Pune Municipal Council (PMC) has urged all citizens to abide by and conserve the city’s foliage under the Maharashtra (Urban Area) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975. It is vital to preserve and protect the environment for the well-being of the present and future generations.
The Act makes it illegal to cut, burn, or otherwise damage trees without a permit, which carries a minimum fine of Rs 1,000 and a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
Ashok Ghorpade, the Chief Superintendent of Gardens and Member Secretary of the Tree Authority, has urged people to report any dead or ill trees. It is also informed that such trees may be cut down or replanted with the consent of the responsible tree officer, along with the required paperwork and tree images.
Ghorpade underlined that to eliminate any potential risks, such trees should be completely removed, replanted, and pruned before the monsoon season.
