Pune: PMC Workers Among Those Arrested For Firing On Gold Trader

Ghorpadi, 13th November 2023: The officials from Crime Branch Unit 5 and Wanowrie Police Station, have arrested a gang of robbers responsible for firing at a gold trader on BT Kawade Road. The investigation has uncovered a shocking revelation that three individuals, working on a contractual basis for Pune Municipal Corporation’s garbage collection vehicle, were involved in the robbery. Another crime has also come to light as a result of the ongoing investigation.

The targeted businessman, identified as Prateek Madanlal Oswal (30 years old, resident of Mundhwa), owns a bullion shop in the Syednagar area of Hadapsar. On the night of November 8, Prateek and his father, Madanlal, were on their way home after closing their shop around 9:30 PM. The gang, comprising Sarfaraz Shaikh (23), Lakhan Ankoshi (35), and Rafiq Shabbir Sheikh (30), intercepted Prateek on BT Kawade Road. A bullet was fired in his direction, and the robbers fled after robbing the gold.

The arrested individuals, Sarfraz Shaikh, Lakhan Ankoshi, and Rafiq Shabbir Sheikh, were employed on a contractual basis for a waste collection truck operated by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Motivated by a desire for quick money, the trio planned to rob the bullion merchant. On November 8, they initially targeted Oswal’s shop in Syednagar but refrained from carrying out the crime due to the crowd. Subsequently, they pursued Oswal, who was on his two-wheeler after closing the shop and fired at him during the robbery.

Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the crime to earn quick money. The three individuals, who are friends with each other, are now in custody as the investigation into their activities continues.

The action was taken by team under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Ramnath Pokle, Deputy Commissioner Amol Zende and Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi.
