Firefighter Spots Smoke, Passengers Safely Evacuated Before Fire Spreads

Pune, 18th September 2026: A major mishap was averted after a firefighter spotted heavy smoke coming from the rear of a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) bus at Shivajinagar Chowk on Thursday.

According to the Pune Fire Brigade, firefighter Suresh Pawar from the Kasba Fire Station was returning home towards Kalewadi on his motorcycle after completing his night shift when he noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the rear of a PMPML bus travelling from Pune Station towards Nigdi.

Pawar immediately alerted the bus driver, who stopped the vehicle. He also informed the fire brigade control room about the incident.

By the time the Kasba Fire Station fire tender arrived, the driver, conductor and Pawar had safely evacuated all passengers from the bus.
Firefighters then used water to extinguish the fire and brought the situation under control, preventing further danger.

The fire brigade said Pawar’s alertness and prompt action helped avert a potentially serious incident. Passengers also appreciated the quick response of the firefighter, driver and conductor.
