Pune, November 20, 2020: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) to start the buses with full capacity within the next one and a half months, due to the increase in passengers. The PMPML service was started in the first week of September after the lockdown. More than three lakh passengers are availing the service. The number of passengers has been steadily increasing in the last few days, therefore the number of buses on various routes is being increased.

As per the rules of ‘Unlock-4’ of the state government, the Municipal Corporation gave permission to start public passenger transport service in the city. Accordingly, from September 3, PMPML had started 421 buses on 190 routes. For the first time since then, on November 2, the number of daily passengers of PMPML had crossed three lakh. The income from that was Rs 43 lakhs. On Tuesday (November 17), PMPML earned Rs 50 lakh in a single day from ticket and pass sales.

On November 2, 1,092 buses were on various routes which had 14,513 rounds in the city. Three lakh passengers had travelled through it. The number of PMPML passengers had declined during Diwali due to a large number of people being out of town. As a result, the number of buses on the routes was reduced. However, the number of passengers suddenly increased on Tuesday. On Tuesday 921 buses on various routes had conducted 13,210 rounds in the city. Although the number of rounds decreased by one thousand as compared to November 2, the number of passengers was 3,15,800.

“The number of buses will be increased in phases keeping in view the situation of coronavirus infection and the increasing number of passengers. It will take at least a month to one and a half month to start buses with full capacity on all routes,” said Rajendra Jagtap, CMD of PMPML.
