Pune: PMPML Driver Suffers Heart Attack on Lakshmi Road; Traffic Police and Auto Driver Save His Life
Pune, 26th August 2025: A major mishap was averted on Monday evening at Belbagh Chowk, Lakshmi Road, when a PMPML bus driver suffered a heart attack while on duty. Alert traffic police officers rushed him to the hospital in time, saving his life.
Due to Ganesh festival processions on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, traffic police were actively managing diversions in the area. Police personnel Romeha Dhavare and Archana Nimgire from the Traffic Department were deployed at Belbagh Chowk when the incident occurred.
The PMPML bus, operating on the Lakshmi Road–Pune Station to Kothrud–Kumbhar Park route, was being driven by Anil Laxman Ambure (49), a resident of Warje Malwadi. As the bus reached Belbagh Chowk, Ambure suddenly collapsed after suffering a heart attack, causing panic among passengers.
On hearing calls for help, officers Dhavare and Nimgire immediately rushed to the bus and pulled the unconscious driver out. With traffic heavily congested due to the ongoing festival processions, an ambulance was unlikely to reach quickly. Acting swiftly, the officers stopped an auto-rickshaw driven by Rajesh Shankar Arkal, a resident of Market Yard, who readily agreed to help.
With the assistance of the police, Ambure was placed in the rickshaw and rushed to a nearby hospital, where timely treatment saved his life.
The quick thinking and coordination of the traffic police and the auto driver ensured that what could have been a fatal incident ended in a life being saved.
