Pune, July 1, 2020: Due to the lockdown, the private and government organisations are have suffered major losses. One of the most adversely hit is Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPL). Incurred losses are so high that the public transport utility was unable to pay the salaries of its employees.

In a desperate bid to find a source of income, PMPML decided to open its services to private companies. They offered to transport the employees of these companies during the lockdown. PMPML was transporting employees of IT companies and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). It was transporting at the rate of Rs 83.50 per km which was not well received.

Hence, they decided to slash their prices to Rs 50-60 per km. After slashing prices, PMPML was forced to reduce their rates further to Rs 25-30 per km again in order to collect revenue.

PMPML Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Nayana Gunde said the companies were reluctant because of high rates and asked us to reduce the fare. Therefore, to generate income, the rates have been reduced.
