Pune: PMPML to Convert Scrap Bus into Public Library for Students and Commuters
Pune, 19th August 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to give a new lease of life to one of its old buses by transforming it into a library for students and commuters. The initiative, launched in collaboration with Fergusson College, aims to promote reading culture among youngsters and passengers.
The library-on-wheels will be stationed on Namdar Gopal Krishna Gokhale Road (FC Road), ensuring it does not obstruct traffic. Students, book lovers, and competitive exam aspirants will be able to access the books free of cost. No membership or reading fee will be charged.
According to the plan, PMPML will redesign the interiors of the old bus and give its exteriors an attractive look with colorful designs. Fergusson College will provide the books and seating arrangements, while PMPML will bear the cost of refurbishment, including painting and interior modifications.
“We are implementing the concept of a library by making necessary changes in a scrap bus. With Fergusson College’s cooperation, we are confident that this initiative will receive a good response from readers and passengers. This will also be a platform to promote our ‘Aapli PMPML’ app,” said Pankaj Deore, Chairman and Managing Director, PMPML.
The college administration has been entrusted with planning the collection of books for the bus library. With its location close to educational institutes, the facility is expected to attract college students, competitive exam aspirants, and avid readers alike.
The PMPML library bus is expected to become a unique reading spot in Pune, blending public transport resources with educational benefits.
