Pune: PMPML To Pay Daily Bus Fare And Fuel Costs In Response To Contractor Strike
Pune, 11th April 2023: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced that it will pay the daily bus fare and fuel costs from April in response to a recent contractors’ strike. The move is intended to prevent contractors’ funds from being exhausted.
PMPML operates approximately 1,700 buses across Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and rural areas, with 1,000 of these buses on lease. The bus fare is paid on a per-kilometre basis, and all PMPML buses require around 86,000 kg of CNG per day.
Previously, PMPML paid the bus and CNG contractors monthly, sometimes leading to funds being exhausted for up to three months. This contributed to a strike by bus contractors in March, which resulted in passenger inconvenience. To avoid such disruptions, PMPML will now pay contractors and CNG suppliers on a daily basis.
PMPML earns an average of Rs 1.5 crore per day through tickets and passes, which will be used to cover expenses. Employee salaries and other expenses will be paid from the income during the first ten days of the month. From the 11th to the 30th, contractors and CNG suppliers will be paid. MNGL will receive Rs 73 lakh per day, while bus contractors will receive Rs 44 lakh per day. Any remaining expenses will be paid from the operating deficit received from the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations.
