Pune: PMPML’s Contractual Drivers Withdraw Strike, Services Not Impacted

Pune 28th August 2023: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) on Monday announced that drivers working with contractual buses have withdrawn their strike on Sunday and they have joined duties on Monday. As a result, 1,801 buses were back on the city roads today to provide better commuting facility to the commuters.

It may be noted that the drivers working with Travel Time company, a contractual firm that provides a total of 200 buses to PMPML had announced a sudden strike on August 25. This led to crisis situation in the PMPML as the officers had to cancel their duties to manage the situation and PMPML drivers who were otherwise provided administrative duties were deployed on the contractor’s buses to avoid inconvenience to the passengers.

Drivers at Kothrud Depot had withdrawn the strike on August 26 while drivers from Pune Railway Station and Wagholi depot called off their strike on Sunday. Meanwhile, the PMPML officials ensured to run maximum buses as per schedule during the strike period and ensured less inconvenience to the passengers. The PMPML in a press statement said that the strike had no major impact on its services as the city buses ensured better revenue during this period and maximum possible buses were also deployed on the city roads.

According to PMPML, a total of 1,617 buses were on city roads on Sunday through which PMPML managed to earn a revenue of Rs 1.53 Crore while 1,589 buses were deployed on Saturday through which a revenue of Rs 1.70 Crore was earned. Similarly, on Friday a total of 1,602 buses were running on the city roads through which the PMPML earned a revenue of Rs 1.78 Crore, said officials.
