Soor Mahatee Mohotsav to Commemorate 75th Birth Anniversary of Eminent Singer Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe

Pune, 28th August 2023: Connoisseurs of Indian classical vocals can block their first weekend of September. ‘Soor Mahatee Foundation’ is organizing a two-day music festival, ‘Soor Mahatee Mohotsav’, to mark the 75th birth anniversary of Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. The Mohotsav will be held at Yashwantrao Chavhan Auditorium on Saturday, September 2nd, and Sunday, September 3rd 2023, 5:30 pm onwards. Entry to the program on both days is free and on a first come first served basis. However, a few seats will be reserved for invitees.

‘Soor Mahatee Mohotsav’ is being organized by well-known classical vocalist Atul Khandekar, a disciple of Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe as his tribute to his guru’s immense contribution to Indian Classical music. The two-day program will include classical and devotional renditions composed by Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe and her guru & elder brother Pt. Kashinath Bodus.

The first day will commence with ‘Naad Ninaad’, an alluring performance by disciples and renowned vocalists of Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Sawani Shende, and Atul Khandekar. Subsequently, a special award function is being organized to felicitate Pt. Vinayak Phatak, a crafted tabla player for his contribution to the music fraternity. He accompanied Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe in her journey from 1984 to 1991. The second award is being bestowed upon Dr. Dileep Deodhar, a family physician and philanthropist. He is being recognized for his exemplary work for underprivileged patients. The first day will conclude with a melodious presentation by renowned singer Pt. Raghunath Panshikar, a disciple of GaanaSaraswati Kishori Amonkar.

Day two will present a unique opportunity to watch ‘Veeneche Cheeranjeev Jhankar’, a biopic on the life and musical journey of Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. The biopic has been conceptualized and directed by Atul Khandekar and Bhakti Khandekar and scripted by Anjali Malkar. Day 2 will conclude with ‘Malavrang’ a vocal recital by Kalapini Komkali, a noted Indian classical vocalist and daughter of the legendary Kumar Gandharva and her nephew Bhuvanesh Komkali. ‘Malavrang’ will include a variety of classical and folk songs based on Raag Malav.
