Pune: PMPML To Start Parcel Transportation Services To Earn Additional Revenue

Pune, 27th May 2021: To earn additional revenue, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will soon start the courier and freight transportation service in the city. For this, 2200 buses will be utilized, said the officials.
PMPML is a public transport service in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and a few villages in the district. Due to lockdown, PMPML is facing a huge financial crunch. To earn revenue and decrease its dependency on municipal corporations, the city transport body has agreed on courier and freight transportation.
Speaking about this, PMPML chairman and managing director Rajendra Jagtap said, “PMPML will collaborate with a private courier company for the parcel service. The company has the entire necessary infrastructure, while PMPML will bear responsibility for the driver’s salary, maintenance of buses and fuel. The storage space will be allocated to the company at 13 bus depots in the city and the transportation will be done from one depot to another and some bus stops in the city. From where the employees of the company will pick up the parcel and deliver it to its final destination. Currently, we have allocated 23 depots for this purpose and soon five more depots will be added.”
“The buses already have enough space to keep lightweight parcels in them. We will make a few changes if necessary. Training will be given to drivers and conductors for the same. This will certainly help to boost the financial condition of the organization”, Jagtap added.
