Pune, 13th February 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has approved a budget of ₹4,503 crore for the financial year 2025-26, with a major focus on infrastructure development, including road networks, industrial connectivity, and public transport. The budget was sanctioned during a meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday, chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister and PMRDA Chairman Devendra Fadnavis.

Key Allocations in PMRDA Budget:
₹636 crore for developing a road network in the proposed Purandar International Airport area.
₹203 crore for cement roads in industrial zones between Ranjangaon and Hinjewadi.
₹1,526 crore for a road network supporting the ‘Urban Growth Center’ proposed in PMRDA’s draft Development Plan.
₹250 crore for purchasing 500 new buses for Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML).
During the meeting, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the need to improve connectivity between Pune’s urban and rural areas. The planned Ring Road, Pune-Satara, and Pune-Nagar road networks will play a crucial role in linking the upcoming Purandar airport.

As PMRDA’s Development Plan (DP) is still under preparation, Fadnavis suggested implementing it in two phases. The first phase will focus on roads, sewage systems, water and electricity supply, as well as public amenities such as crematoriums and burial grounds. The second phase will incorporate additional infrastructure.

Additionally, the CM directed officials to adopt advanced water reuse technology to address the city’s growing water demands.

To tackle Pune’s worsening traffic congestion, especially on Nagar Road, the CM proposed a Yerawada-Katraj twin tunnel subway and instructed PMRDA to submit a detailed plan. This innovative initiative is expected to ease traffic flow and provide a faster commute.

The meeting also discussed various measures for planned urbanization. Fadnavis emphasized:

Roads in new city developments should be at least 18 meters wide to accommodate future growth.
Water supply schemes for drinking water must be completed at the earliest.
PMRDA should upgrade its website to offer maximum online services, ensuring ease of access for citizens.
Development charges should be kept affordable for residents to encourage planned expansion.
CM Fadnavis also urged authorities to expedite land allocation within the Raj Bhavan premises to facilitate the construction of a Metro flyover.

The budget approval meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, and PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase.

With this ambitious budget, PMRDA aims to accelerate infrastructural growth, ensuring better connectivity, sustainable development, and improved public transport facilities for Pune’s expanding metropolitan region.
