Hinjawadi, 13th October 2025: In view of the increasing number of accidents involving heavy vehicles in the Hinjawadi-Maan and Mahalunge areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has decided to impose strict restrictions on the movement of such vehicles during peak traffic hours. Construction companies have been instructed to ensure that heavy vehicles enter city limits only during the time slots specified by the traffic police.

The decision was taken during a review meeting held on Monday at PMRDA’s Akurdi office, chaired by Avinash Patil, Director of Development Permission and Planning Department. Police Inspector Mahesh Kumar Sartape and representatives of various construction firms working in the Hinjawadi-Maan and Mahalunge areas were present.

During the meeting, officials directed builders to take full responsibility for the safety compliance of vehicles operating at their sites. They must verify that drivers are not under the influence of alcohol, hold valid driving licenses, and that all related records are maintained and displayed at project sites.

Hinjawadi and its adjoining areas—being major IT hubs—witness heavy traffic congestion during morning and evening hours. Frequent movement of cement mixers, dumpers, and other construction vehicles during this time has worsened traffic flow and raised safety concerns among commuters.

The meeting comes in the wake of a tragic incident on Friday, when a woman riding a two-wheeler was crushed under a concrete mixer truck in Hinjawadi. Police have registered a case against the driver, and PMRDA has decided to suspend construction permissions for the project linked to the vehicle involved in the accident.

Patil emphasized that construction activity will be halted at sites found violating the new safety and traffic guidelines. “Developers must strictly follow the designated time slots and ensure drivers are fit and compliant with all regulations. Public safety is our priority,” he said.
